Eyup is a district in Istanbul which starts from the Golden Horn and continues all the way to the shore of the Black Sea. Developed along the area where the Kağıthane and Alibey streams meet at the head of the Golden Horn, Eyüp is of great historical importance, especially for Muslims. Muslim pilgrims come from across the world to visit the Eyup Sultan Mosque and Tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari - the Prophet Mohammed’s standard bearer and friend who was killed during the first Muslim siege of Constantinople. It is considered one of the holiest places in Islam. Cafe Pier Loti is another popular place in Eyüp which enjoys some of the best views of the Golden Horn and the historic cemeteries, both Christian and Muslim. Eyup is 25 km north of Ataturk airport or approximately 30 minutes transfer time along Ataturk boulevard northbound and E 80 and O-3 eastbound to Eyup. The district is 65 km away from Sabiha Gokcen airport which is more than 1 hour and a half by a private taxi along O-4, O-1 and O-3 in northwest direction.
