LUKOVIT - Bulgaria » The town of Lukovit is located on the banks of the Zlatna Panega River in north Bulgaria, on the main road between Sofia and Rousse. It is 45 km southwest of Pleven, 24 km north of Yablanitsa, 12 km south of Cherven Bryag and 125 km northeast of Sofia. The Community Cultural Centre exhibits objects from Thracian, Byzantine and old Bulgarian periods, as well as the Lukovit silver treasure from the 4th century BC. Tourists can also enjoy the historical museum collection in Saznanie Library and St George Church. The nature around Lukovit is very beautiful and suitable for eco tourism. Karlukovski Monastery (Sofronii Vranchanski's shelter), Glozhene Monastery, Suevata Dupka Cave and the village of Brestnitsa are nearby. Lukovit is a very interesting karst region with many natural phenomena, such as The Dolls rock formations.
