CHIRPAN - Bulgaria » The town of Chirpan is situated on the left bank of Tekirska river in the upper Thracian lowlands. It is 200 km southeast of Sofia, 50 km east of Plovdiv and 40 km southwest of Stara Zagora. The town has an interesting ancient history which can be traced in Karasura archaeological excavations. Chirpan is the birthplace of Peyo Yavorov - the greatest Bulgarian poet. Once in town, tourists can visit the house-museum of Peyo Yavorov, the historical and archaeological museums, Danchov's house, Tyankov's house, and the Holy Mother Church.
