KYUSTENDIL - Bulgaria » The town of Kyustendil is located in the southern part of Kyustendil's valley on the banks of the Banshtitsa River, on the slopes of the Osogovo mountain. It is 22 km northeast of Gueshevo, the Bulgarian border check-point with Macedonia, 40 km west of Dupnitsa, 70 km northwest of Blagoevgrad and 90 km southwest of Sofia. The town's main attractions are the historical museum, the art gallery of Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora, the Asclepiads of Pautalia - Roman shrine and spa from the 2nd-3rd century, Chifte Banya, Ahmed Bei Mosque, St Georgi Church, the Holy Virgin Church, St Dimitar Church, Pirkov's Tower and many more. Kyustendil is a spa resort with 40 mineral water springs, situated at the foot of Hissarlaka. The town and its region is called The Bulgarian Orchard as cherries, plums and apples are grown here. Hissarlaka Park is one of the main landmarks of the town with its beautiful nature, remains of a fortress, hotels and restaurants. Tri Buki is 20 km away from the town and offers 1 km long ski run. 13 km southeast of Kyustendil is Nevestin Bridge and 39 km to the north is the amazing Zemen Canyon.
