
Vidin is lies on the southern bank of the Danube in the most northwestern corner of Bulgaria, 199 km northwest of Sofia, 52 km north of Belogradchik, 56 km northwest of Lom, and 30 km northeast of the Serbian border. The port town of Vidin is linked by a regular ferry service with the Romanian town of Calafat. Vidin is home to the area's hottest tourist attraction – the impressive 13th century medieval fortress of Baba Vida on the Danube, and several interesting churches, basilicas, and mosques. The transfer from Sofia/airport to Vidin will take you along E79 and A2, and then will continue along E79 with duration of about 3 hours. To enter Romania from Vidin, continue along E79 to reach the ferry link on the Danube, and then continue straight on to Calafat.
