
Pleven is an important regional center in northern Bulgaria, 170 km northeast of Sofia, 320 km east from the Black Sea coast, 146 km southwest of the Danube bridge in Rousse and 70 km from the Balkan Range. Its central location defines its importance as a big administrative, economic, cultural and transport centre. Pleven is the seventh largest Bulgarian city and one of the oldest settlements in the country with a significant role in Bulgarian history. Pleven really has a lot to offer in terms of historical and archeological monuments and worthwhile urban sights. The transfer from the capital and its international airport takes a little more than 2 hours along highway E79 and E83 eastbound and from the city to Varna on the Black Sea coast it is a 4-hours transfer ride.
