The construction of a cable car over the Danube river, which to connect the Bulgarian town of Ruse and the Romanian town of Giurgiu discussed specialists from the two towns.
The idea is the heavy traffic on the Danube bridge and the tax payment to be avoided. The cable car will be constructed on municipal grounds. A possible option is the cable car to start from the Park of youth for the Bulgarian side and to end at the Giurgiu swimming complex in Romania.
The initial assessment of the specialists is that around 8 million euro will be needed for the design and the construction of the facility. Sources will be sought from the functional program “Transborder cooperation”. During the talks it was specified that the design of the cable car could be implemented by project companies from Bucharest. For the construction of the cable car the two municipalities will conduct open international procedure for choosing a constructor.
Till the accession of the two countries to the Shengen agreement, the control over the passengers could be implemented through mobile cabins at both ends of the facility. After 2013 the control is expected to drop off.
