KOTEL - Bulgaria » The town of Kotel is located in a small valley in the eastern part of the Balkan Range, 49 km northeast of Sliven, 62 km south of Targovishte and 328 km east of Sofia. Kotel is an architectural and historical reserve with more than 100 houses in Kamchiya style, preserved from the Revival period. Kotel is famous for its carpets. Unique samples of weaving art are exhibited in the Galatan School. Other sights of interest are Kyopeev's House - ethnographic museum, the Renaissance museum, the Museum of Nature and Science, St Trinity and St Apostles Peter and Paul Church, Philip Koutev High School of Music, Izvorite Park. Close to the town are the villages of Zheravna, Medven, Katunishte, the town of Gradets, the diving wall of Zhelezni Vrati and more than 30 caves among which Ledenika, Rakovski, Dryanovska and Kurvavata lokva.
