Hotel location: St Konstantin & Helena resort
Comment: Stayed at the Grand Varna last August as it had been recommended by
friends who had holidayed there about 5 years ago. Compared to what our
friends had said it was obvious the hotel facilities had gone downhill a
bit. For instance when they were there breakfast was a good experience,
staff cooking fresh omelette etc. We also met people at the airport on the
way out who were going to a different resort but when we mentioned the hotel
we were going to they raved about it as they made a point of going there for
a meal in one of their great restaurants every year. They said the
restaurants were really busy. Unfortunately not when we were there as we
didn't see anyone in them the whole fortnight! I think it's changed hands
since our friends went and the new owners are relying on the hotel's past
good reputation whilst cutting corners. The breakfast is just a free for
all, the food is quite cold and not very nice, certainly not freshly cooked
any more, and you can't get a table. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the
hotel is clean, rooms are a good size, for the most part the staff are
friendly, although the pool staff leave a bit to be desired, they are quite
young men and I got the impression they thought they were there to pose and
not to offer you a service. There's no real entertainment at the hotel, a
couple of nights they had a guy playing a grand piano at the pool area which
was all lit up and it was lovely, but after a while a bit boring. I don't
think the hotel is 5 star, maybe 4 at a push. It has a great location which
helped to make up for negative bits. I think there's probably better hotels
in the resort that try much harder for their guests rather than rely on past
glories. The resort is a great wee place and the people are lovely. The
beaches are smashing and the prices are great. Visit St Konstantin
definitely. |
