GEM (August 26, 2006)Hotel name: Metropol*** Hotel location: Golden sands resort, Bulgaria Comment: Booked into the Metropol for 2 weeks - very run down and should be pulled down! If you are uesed to the good things in life avoid the Metropol... Breakfast poor selection and if you are late you starve!! Restaurant wasn't the cleanest and the same food every day, but stick to toast and juice. Thank god we only on B&B basis. Although the rooms were extremely basic and in need of redecoration the chambermaids did a fantastic job with towels changed everyday and bedlinen changed a few days a week. You'll need a hairdryer as there wasn't one in the room. Staff are unpleasant and not that keen to help. The 5* Admiral Hotel up the strip 800m is fabulous and not expensive at all. Golden Sands resort lovely. Plenty of entertainment at night and swimming pools to choose from. Water sports great and try the bungee jump. ------------------ By: Mr. Smith (May 3, 2006) Hotel name: Metropol*** Hotel location: Golden sands resort, Bulgaria Comment: This is absolutely the Best Holiday I have ever had! Bulgaria is Fantstic, the people are great, Golden Sands, although purely a holiday resort, is unspoilt. The Beaches are beautiful, the sea is warm, there is plenty to do for all the family. The Metropol hotel is a first class hotel, the rooms were well equiped with air con and a miny bar, we even had a brand new cot put in our room complete with bedding for the baby, and much to our surprise, it was better than the travel cot we lugged out there. The main thing about the hotel though was how clean it was and how well it was maintained. Clean towels and bedding every day, rooms hoovered and polished everyday. The Food in the Hotel, although a bit repetitive, was well cooked and presented and there was plenty of variety. I cant say enough about how great this resort is. Will I be going back? Absolutely! We didn't want to leave. If you are thinking about The Metropol hotel and Golden Sands, don't, just book it and enjoy yourselves. ------------------ By: GT - Portsmouth (August 2004) Hotel name: Metropol *** Hotel location: Golden sands resort, Bulgaria Comment: We arrived at the "Hotel" Metropol early in the morning feeling tired from our journey and looking forward to getting into our room. The hotel looked clean and modern in the reception area so first impressions were good. However , the corridor to our "room" smelt of rotten fish (this was the bins) the room was too small for 3 people , smelt damp and was in poor condition decoratively. We booked half board thinking at least we will eat well. WRONG. The food was mainly geared towards Germans. No hint of local delights. So we suffered breakfast most days but never ate in the "restaurant". My advice is to book self catering , it is so cheap to eat and drink. A meal for 3 about £12 tops. Beer 60p - 90p. For you smokers out there the cigs are about 30p a packet for local brands which are smokable. Victory Lights being the most popular. The Metropol is located in the quiter area of the Resort and if you have children I would recommend booking a hotel in this area as the main area is very busy. Would be great for a bunch of lads and lasses out for a good time. Loads of clubs pubs etc. Golden Sands beach is very child friendly and very clean and all along the beach there are plenty of pools to choose from if you dont like the beach. You will be charged for sunbeds and umbrellas. The locals were all friendly and the service was always good. This resort has been likened to a mini Blackpool and I think this is a fair comparison. We stayed for 1 week and I think this was enough. Longer than this and I think hiring a car and seeing the country would be the thing to do. We booked 2 excursions (one was canceled) so the one we went on was called "Forest Fiesta" a short minibus drive up a hill to a covered outdoor reastuarant if that makes any sense. The idea being you eat and drink all night at no extra charge. The food and entertainment were both good. My advice is to stick to the draught beer. Being a lover of Red wine i decided to plump for that option. (Big mistake) it was drinkable but tasted very weak , as if it had been watered down. The next day I could have taken part in the new olympic event of sh**ting for England. Now, there are two views on this. Mine is that they watered the wine down with tap water , hence the resulting "water music" on the toilet , my wifes view however is "drinking seven jugs of the stuff what do you expect". In all though, a welcome night out. Overall the holiday was ok. But PLEASE DO NOT book the Metropol it is even less than a one star hotel. It looks really sruffy from the outside and should probably be pulled down. So in conclusion a good place for families with enough to do and very cheap to eat and drink. Oh , whatever you do don't take travellers cheques you pay huge commision when changing them. Take sterling cash or use the cashpoints. If your going have a great time , if you've been and stayed at the Metropol we know how you feel. If your going and are booked into the Metropol try and change it as soon as possible. (im not exagerating) ------------------ |
