
Montana lies on the banks of Ogosta river in northwest Bulgaria, 150 km from the capital Sofia, 120 km from Vidin at the Danube river shore, and 30 km from the Serbian border. Montana is not only a regional center, but an important transport junction in northwestern Bulgaria, crossed by two major transport routes. These are the international highway E79, connecting the Danube river with the capital and further south with Greece and route 81, connecting the port town of Lom on the Danube river with Sofia via the Petrohan pass in the Balkan range mountains. The transfer from Sofia international airport to the town of Montana takes 2 hours.
