There is also a direct bus service between Karlovo and Kalofer every hour or so. If you hire a car you can use Kalofer as a jumping-off point for excursions to Vruh Botev, the Balkan's range highest peak, which looms over the town from the north-west. An asphalt road winds tortuously to the summit.
